  1. Confirm daily calories first. If the calorie target is inaccurate, the carbohydrate result shifts by the same proportion.

  3. Cross-check the g/kg result. The training shortcut is only a comparison; the final amount must leave room for basic protein and fat needs.
  4. Adjust from real outcomes. Use hunger, training performance, weight trend, and qualified advice to refine the starting value.

Formula, range, and example

Primary formula:

Daily carbohydrate grams = daily calories × carbohydrate percentage ÷ 4 kcal/g

Four kcal per gram is the standard energy factor used here. Calculations retain decimals internally; gram cards show whole numbers and g/kg shows two decimals.

Training shortcut (secondary):

Reference carbohydrate grams = body weight (kg) × 3 / 4 / 5 g/kg

Low, moderate, and high training volumes map to 3, 4, and 5 g/kg for comparison only. This method does not check total calories.

Worked example

2,000 kcal × 50% ÷ 4 = 250 g carbohydrate, providing about 1,000 kcal; 60 kg × 4 g/kg = 240 g.

Frequently asked questions

How many carbs should I eat per day?

There is no single gram target for everyone. Start with daily calories and a carbohydrate percentage, then adjust for weight, training volume, protein and fat allocation, and observed response.

Should I cut carbs as low as possible for fat loss?

No. Sustainable total energy intake still matters. Very low carbohydrate intake can affect training performance, adherence, and the allocation of other nutrients.

Should I use calorie percentage or g/kg for muscle gain?

Use calorie percentage first to check the whole energy allocation, then use g/kg as a training comparison. If the results differ greatly, review calories, protein, and fat rather than simply choosing the higher number.

Can training days and rest days use different carbohydrate targets?

Yes, but they do not have to. You can save separate parameters with share links while keeping weekly average calories and the rest of the nutrition plan explainable.

Why do the calorie-percentage and body-weight methods differ?

They start from different inputs and assumptions. When the difference is large, the body-weight shortcut should not override total calories or basic protein and fat constraints.
