Use and interpret the result
  1. Set the display to its normal viewing brightness and enter the brightness record.
  2. Choose a dark or dim environment and record viewing distance and angle.
  3. Enter the full-screen black display, observe it, and press Esc to exit.
  4. Mark fixed bright spots on the region map, choose a severity, and copy the record.
Method and validation boundary

The tool shows a pure-black background through the browser full-screen API and records the locations the user observes with a sixteen-region map. It does not read display brightness data or automatically identify backlight bleed.

For comparison, keep brightness and environment fixed, then change viewing distance or angle. Fixed edge spots and angle-dependent glow should be recorded as separate observations.

Scope and limitations

This tool is intended for backlit LCD and Mini LED displays; OLED does not have traditional backlight bleed. Automatic camera exposure can exaggerate dark-area bright spots. For service decisions, follow the device manufacturer policy or professional measurement.

How do I tell backlight bleed from IPS glow?

Backlight bleed is usually fixed at an edge or corner and changes little when the viewing angle changes. IPS glow often changes with angle and distance. Keep brightness and environment fixed and repeat the observation from different distances and angles.

Does a bright spot at the screen edge count as backlight bleed?

Do not conclude from one view alone. First check whether the spot remains fixed on the pure-black display, then change distance and angle to rule out reflections and IPS glow.

Why does a phone camera show more bleed than my eyes?

Night mode and automatic exposure can lift dark areas and enlarge subtle bright spots. A photo is useful for recording location, but the severity should be based on a visual result under fixed conditions.
