How playback speed is changed

Multiplier mode scales each frame delay; uniform mode applies the same delay to every frame. The minimum delay prevents impractically fast playback.

The output keeps frame order. Players may still clamp very short delays differently.

Method and calculation

For multiplier mode, each delay is divided by the speed multiplier and clamped to the minimum. Uniform mode assigns the same delay to every frame.

Boundaries and limitations

Very short delays are clamped to the selected minimum, so extreme speed settings may not be exact in every player.

Privacy and local processing

Reading, decoding, delay editing, and result generation happen in this browser. Files are not uploaded or saved.

Format and standards

The output follows GIF89a timing fields. Browsers and players can differ in how they display very short delays and finite loops.

GIF speed questions

How is GIF playback speed changed?

Multiplier mode scales each frame delay, uniform mode gives every frame the same delay, and the half-speed preset uses a 0.5× multiplier.

Why can playback differ slightly between players?

Very short delays are clamped to the selected minimum, and browsers or players can handle timing with different precision. Extreme settings may therefore not look identical everywhere.
