How the grid becomes frames

The image is divided into complete frame cells using the selected width and height, then read across rows or down columns.

If the source dimensions do not divide evenly, the incomplete edges are ignored rather than exported as partial frames.

Method and calculation

The image is divided into a grid of frameWidth × frameHeight cells, read in the selected order, then encoded as GIF frames with the chosen delay.

Boundaries and limitations

The image must contain complete cells; leftover pixels are ignored. GIF color quantization can change fine gradients.

Privacy and local processing

Image decoding, frame extraction, GIF encoding, and result generation happen in this browser. Files are not uploaded or saved.

Format and standards

The output uses the GIF89a structure. The source image is decoded by the browser before each cell is encoded as an animation frame.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a sprite sheet to a GIF?

Upload a regular grid image, enter one frame's width and height, choose row or column order, then set the delay and loop options before processing.

What happens to incomplete edge pixels?

Only complete frame cells are read. Pixels left outside the grid are ignored and do not become an extra frame.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The image is decoded and processed in this browser; the tool does not upload or store it.
